Dropout? :(
« on: June 22, 2015, 10:18:58 AM »
I have been struggling with a knee injury for the past 7 months. I have done the PPA for the last 2 years, and I signed up again this year, despite the knee pain - I figured it would be better by now. After weeks of Physical Therapy, it's better, but definitely not 100%.
The last thing I want is to make it to Barr Camp and not be able to continue due to knee issues and pain. I did Section 16 a couple of days ago and experienced moderate pain going uphill.

I am afraid I've made up my mind to take this year off and focus on strengthening for next year's PPA race. What are the rules of "dropping out" of the race? I really don't want to take up a spot if I won't even be running it. If I cancel my registration, is there any chance of getting my money back? If not, I understand - I'm more concerned about taking up an empty space that someone would probably love to fill.

Thanks for any help.

They definitely don't give refunds.  As for your other question, I remember a few years ago that they requested you notify them if you can't race, so they can give that spot to another racer.  I'm searching and searching but can't find that info any more.  I think they might have changed things, where now they just overbook the race from the beginning, with the assumption that a fraction of those who register will end up not racing.  Not 100% sure, maybe someone with better knowledge will chime in.

I seem to recall that the ONLY refunds they would give would be to military members if they were re-assigned out of the area. That's a damn good reason.
