For anyone planning to drive to the Pikes Peak Summit On Sunday August 9, 2015 (the Sunday before the Ascent and Marathon) there is a Pikes Peak bicycling Hill Climb on the Pikes Peak Highway and according to the Pikes peak Highway web site the highway public Opening will be Delayed until 9:00 a.m.
I ran into this a year or two ago. They actually let me on the highway earlier. But I could not go any further than the lake area until the bike race was over. I did some jogging around the lake area for an hour or two while I waited.
