Active.com Registration
« on: February 10, 2015, 01:17:04 PM »
Will there be any changes to the previous year's format with Active.com? Will we still start with the link on the registration page? Will you post a screenshot of the Active page since there are different requirements this year? Hopefully Active has us down for a low traffic day to minimize crashes like we saw several years ago.

We will be using Active.com again this year. Links from the registration page to the Active.com pages will become active in a week or so (I'm currently reviewing the 13+ different registration pages that get created each year and making sure I didn't overlook something, like the timezone for the registration start times.)

The form will more or less be the same as last year, with the following minor tweaks:
1: The shirt size offerings have changed. You will now have the choice of Women's XS -> XL in addition to Men's S -> XXL.

2 (PPA Only): There is a checkbox at the end to indicate if you are running the double. (The assumption is that folks will sign up for the PPM first since it opens before the PPA and historically fills much faster than the PPA.) This will not register you for both races but will add in the extra fee for the doublers this year. If you are a doubler, "forgetting" to check this box will result in issues when I cross reference the two registration lists and discover that you also signed up for the PPM without checking this box.

I hope to have a sample for the PPA and PPM on the registration page in early March.

-- EDIT 2/11:

For #2 above: If you sign up for both the PPA and PPM and do not check the box when registering for the PPA, I will contact you via the email address you provided when you registered. You will then have the option to either withdraw from one of the races or mail in a check to cover the fee. If the check is not received in a reasonable time your entry to the PPM will be forfeited.  This creates extra work for everybody involved so please don't do it.  :)

Any update on posting a screen shot of the registration form/questions before registration?  My last saved copy is 2009 which I suspect is a bit out of date.

Sorry for the delay.

I'm having a bit of an issue getting a clean screen shot of what the registration form will look like if you don't log in (which pre-fills a bunch of fields). In order for me to see the form before it opens I need to login as the registrar, and the site no longer has the option of previewing it as it will look to a user who does not log in. The good news/bad news is that Active.com is in the process of retiring their old registration system that we all know and love. This will be one of the last time we use it.

If you have an old one, the form will more or less look the same as before. There are four fields that will pertain to your qualifier,
1) Qualifying Race Year
2) Qualifying Race Name
3) Qualifying Race Time
4) URL/Link to the results showing #1->3 (something like the http://www.skyrunner.com/search/find.asp?Last=GARNER&First=JOHN or http://www.pprrun.org/results/2013_results/2013_adt_marathon_overall.htm)

The rest is standard stuff you (should) know; like name, address, age, gender, etc.

It seems like active.com registration site for the marathon is already having problems handling site traffic.
It keeps giving a 'stretching our digital quads' error message.
Not a good sign.

The main Ascent and Marathon registration is moved to a separate set of servers (I flag those two as a "Rush Event"), so hopefully everything will be good.

Normally the TCR series is no big deal, but it seems that a lot of folks are looking at it in nervous anticipation for the noon opening of the PPM.

My PPA registration was completed with a time tag of 12:37 PM MDT.

The only problem was that the semi-separate $7 Registration Protector failed the credit card processing that the event cost processing passed with no problem??

Unfortunately I have zero control over the event insurance that Active.com is offering. I also requested that they disable the questions about email lists and magazine subscriptions, but to no avail.

You should be able to contact active.com via the email they sent to have them try to re-process the event insurance. It is from a different company so they may have been flagged by your bank as being possibly fraudulent since it came right after another purchase.

I called registering 'the race before the race' today. There were almost 3000 people checking out the race before opening registration today. I got all sweaty and everything.

About the Registration Protector insurance.  I decided to Google the insurance company's reviews before I contacted them about purchasing the insurance.  There were enough horror stories that I decided I would rather not take the chance of having to spend many frustrating hours fighting for the insurance benefit.  That would just add to the disappointment if something happens that prevents me from running.

Now for the fun part ... continuing to prepare for and running in the PPA.

Yeah, I agree about the insurance, sometimes in can be down right painful collecting... many times not worth your time.

Train smart and stay healthy, don't worry about things outside of your control.

See you all on August 15/16th! Many of you before that, on the trail...
